THE LAVA PILLOWS MEÑAKOZ
Carefully descending to the Meñakoz beach, on the left you can see a peculiar wall that is about 15 metres tall made of round stones. Do you know what secret the stones hold?
They're pillow lava stones. It's formed when lava from an underwater eruption contacts sea water and cools down abruptly.
DID YOU KNOW... It forms one of the most distinctive kinds of lava flows from the upper Cretaceous period in the Basque-Cantabrian Basin. They can be up 100 million years old!
