LA GALEA-BARRIKA
CAVE DIVING ON THE CLIFFS
LA GALEA-BARRIKA PALEOTERRACE
A large part of the Flysch of Biscay, from Aixerrota to Barrika, runs over flatlands located above spectacular cliffs. It's really an ancient cliff base or wave-cut platform that was moulded by erosion from waves over 100,000 to 50,000 years that later emerged to reach its current location with the final descent from sea level.
Geomorphological phenomena made possible the formation of these cliffs and the terraces at their feet, which give shelter to great biodiversity and give the landscape its singular beauty.
